\
Date: 30 May 1943\
\
The fighting along the Kuban front has intensified again as Soviet forces continue to build pressure around Novorosysk. The coastal bridgehead remains active, and the Black Sea Fleet Air Force is flying continuous sorties to protect shipping, support ground forces, and move supplies in from the east.\
\
Inland, the situation is unstable but not collapsed. Krymsk is under intermittent artillery pressure and air attack, leaving its airfield only partially usable. Operations there are limited and unreliable—mud, damage, and constant harassment have reduced it to a forward strip rather than a dependable base. As a result, the Luftwaffe is relying heavily on Anapa to sustain fighter operations across the sector.\
\
Soviet air activity is concentrated along a clear pattern. Aircraft are staging from the east—Gelendzhik and deeper rear areas—then moving west toward Novorossiysk in organized waves. Fighter cover is aggressive and often climbs to meet threats before reaching the coastal zone, while strike aircraft form up further inland before committing to the target area. The density of traffic increases sharply as you approach Novorossiysk, where naval and ground-based anti-aircraft defenses create a heavily protected airspace.\
\
For Jagdgeschwader 52, the priority is not to engage over the city itself, but to break the system feeding it. Intercept Soviet aircraft before they descend into the Novorossiysk battle area, disrupt their formations, and force them to abort or arrive disorganized. Maintaining altitude and positioning north of the main traffic lanes is critical to achieving this.\
\
Today’s sortie is part of that effort—enter from the north, take control of the airspace above the front, and cut into the flow of Soviet aviation before it reaches the coast.",

You will take off from Anapa and immediately climb north toward the Temryuk. 28.52 Km at 9 degrees. The goal is to get above the fight before you ever see it—bring the aircraft up to around 4,000–5,000 meters and hold your speed. Do not drift south early. You’re staying out of the traffic lanes on purpose.\
From Temryuk, Turn east at 107 dregrees and position yourself north of Krymskaya in 55.41 Km. This is your setup. By the time you reach this point you should be at your highest altitude of the mission, around 6,000–6,500 meters. Soviet aircraft moving toward the front will be below you and still organizing. Do not engage yet unless it’s completely free—this position is what gives you control of the rest of the sortie.\
Once established north of Krymskaya, turn south at 184 degrees and begin running down the front line for 30km. This is where the fighting starts. Hold between 5,000 and 6,000 meters and work from above. You’ll intersect climbing fighters, escort formations, and aircraft forming up for strikes toward Novorossiysk. Make fast passes, keep your energy, and stay out of prolonged turning fights. If a contact pulls you below 2,000 meters, break it off.\
As you approach the northern edge of Novorossiysk, you will not continue south. Turn West at 289 degrees for 59.069 Km. This is critical. The city and harbor are saturated with heavy anti-aircraft fire and naval guns. Instead, just north of the city, you cut west and stay high—no lower than 4,500 meters. You will still be in the traffic flow, catching aircraft entering and leaving the battle, but outside the worst of the flak.\
From there, continue west along the front, working your way back toward Anapa. This final leg is for picking off damaged aircraft and stragglers disengaging from the fight. Do not descend to chase anything low unless it’s completely isolated and safe. Once clear of contact, turn back toward Anapa and descend for landing.\
The entire sortie depends on discipline—altitude, positioning, and knowing where not to go. If you stay high, enter from the north, and avoid the Novorossiysk flak zone, you control the fight. If you drift south or get pulled low, you lose it.",
